On Friday Mrs. Badger, a medical technologist, came to our class to share many interesting details of her job. She even brought in many tools that are used in the field including swabs, a microscope, a blood glucose reader, and rubber gloves. The kids loved seeing Miss Mrsa have her finger pricked as well as having the chance to feel like a medical technologist by trying on their own set of rubber gloves :)
This week one of the comprehension strategies we focused on was identifying facts and details about a main idea. After practicing this skill as a whole group, we partnered off to apply it to a short reading passage. The children love working together to explore texts!

After a few days of indoor recess, we had to let out our wiggles by dancing to the "Gummy Bear" song. Oh boy, was this ever entertaining to watch :)
After creating our collages last week which focused on the question, "What roles can we have in the future," we were able to explore each other's work in a "Gallery Walk." We walked around in my version of an art gallery and looked for roles which were interesting to us, as well as roles which require special tools and technology. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed looking at and discussing the hard work of our friends!
This week was Fire Prevention Week. We enjoyed a visit from the local fire house where we learned fire safety tips. We even met Smokey the Bear and were able to check out the fire truck. This enhanced our understanding about tools and technology within the community, an area we were focusing on this week in language arts and social studies.

Every week the children practice reading what we call our "Fluency Piece." We work on our expression, phrasing, and pacing in order to become more fluent readers. We have presentations on Friday, where a few children get to read aloud their favorite piece to the class. We loved hearing our friends, as well as providing compliments and areas to work on. Grady, Ian, and Ayla did a fantastic job with our first set of presentations!

In guidance class, we practiced our listening skills while rocking our "Listening Leis" and dancing in a conga line.

On Friday we had our own mini-relay. We ran laps, jump roped, and hula hooped. Boy, were we ever tired when we finished :)

In support of Relay for Life, we had Spirit Week! Our classroom was full of pjs, purple shirts, hats, and of course crazy hair! It was entertaining watching some of the kids attempt to work in the computer lab with their crazy dos :)
