Pajama Day!

We celebrated receiving 100 Hive Fives with Pajama Day!  We had so much fun, and the kids were  able to get cozy with their stuffed animals and even read to them during independent reading time :)

Mystery Mixture

Children were given a mystery mixture composed of two household solids.  Children were asked to predict the solids, and then observed how the properties changed when mixed with water.  Children then brainstormed and planned a way to separate the mixture.  Some used a filter and/or sieve, others chose to pour the mixture into a petri dish and wait several days to see if evaporation will result in a change.

Oh the Dedication!

We love reading so much, we can't even stop at recess :)

Chromatography

Last week we explored chromatography by expanding ink into its hidden colors.  We placed a dot of green and black ink in the center of a filter.  By slowly adding drops of water we were able to see the colors that make up the color of ink.  We have such amazing scientists in class!

Chickens!

When you imagine recess fun, chickens are not always a part of the picture.  But for us at Marion-Walker, this is an interesting addition to our environment :)

Fire Safety Week!

We enjoyed a very informational assembly from the local firefighters about their roles in the community as well as how we can stay safe.

We learned all about the tools and technology on the fire trucks.

In we go to explore inside!

Out we come!

We even met Smokey the Bear!  Brianna's family are involved in law enforcement, so she was able to walk Smokey in to be introduced!  We cannot wait for Mr. & Mrs. Dickey to come talk to our class later in the year!

We learned about the gear involved when fighting fires.

Goodbye Smokey

Money Exchange Game

We practiced the power of 10 when we learned and played the Money Exchange Game.  The first one to have enough to exchange for a $100 bill wins.
